How did Kansas get its nicknames?

  Everything and everyone has nicknames,right? States have all kinds of nicknames depending on how they look,their history,and what goes on in that state. Kansas is what I'm talking about! They have a million nicknames but there are three main names. (Above) Kansas is known as the Sunflower state and Midway USA. Why does Kansas have names like Sunflower? It all depended on the location of the state or what represents it. For instance sunflower is the states flower. It is abundant in Kansas. It is not a flower but a weed!  Midway USA is easy to figure out. Kansas is right in the middle! It has mountain areas,grassy areas,and more! There are a lot more names so go research! Make sure when you visit Kansas you smell the sunflowers!

How Did Kansas Get Its Name?

 How do you think Kansas got the names Kansas? Well,a tribe called the Kansa Indians were making their home in Kansas territory. Kansa means "People of The South Wind".  The Kansa tribe found a river and named it the Kansas River. That means Kansas was name after a river but the credit goes to the Kansa tribe for naming the river.
